A heat gun used to be a luxury item in the shop, but nowadays it’s almost a necessity — you need it for heat-shrinking tubing, stripping paint, thawing pipes, etc.  And while you might get by with the traditional shop heat gun and its two settings, Low and High, for some jobs you’ll want a tool with in-between settings, like Griot’s Variable-Temperature Electronic Heat Gun.

Ever see somebody’s car get repo’d with some of those rolling lifts and think to yourself, “Wow.  That seems useful.  I could use that around the shop!”  Well if you did, movable car lifts are available and don’t require tons of foot pumping, either. 

You can slide your ride into a corner by yourself in a few minutes by placing the two rollers underneath each tire and ratcheting the rollers together.  The ratchet design operates by hydraulic pressure, so you can do the work one-handed.  The casters also spin 360° allowing you to wheel the car in any direction necessary.

We came across this interesting product from Griot’s Garage today; the photo’s pretty self-explanatory.  It’s a single-finger glove with a small magnet in it to hold a nut or other ferrous object that you need to insert into a tight space.

Griot’s Garage carries some pretty cool stuff, and we’ve purchased car cleaning supplies from them before.  But when they sent us notice of their new power tools — specifically the random orbital polisher — we didn’t see anything particularly special about it.  Then we noticed that it has a cool feature: a speed control.
