If you’ve been bemoaning your back yard’s lack of entertainment accoutrements, why not build yourself a sweet deck? It’s not nearly as hard as decking companies would like you to think, though we won’t kid you — it’s not a one-afternoon project. And planning before you start will not only save you a lot of time — it’ll assure you complete the project.

If you think you might be up to the task, check out this interesting how-to and summary of new innovations from DoItYourself.com. It’ll get you pointed in the right direction and help answer some of your questions.

Here’s another fun reason to get off your ass and head to the shop this weekend: make your very own Spartan armor with paper, resin, and fiberglass. Dr. Professor Jake Biggs posted a very thorough how-to over on Instructables, and claims you can duplicate his process to make an entire set of armor for around $150.

Sure, Halloween’s over. But you could always throw it in the closet for next year, right?

Looking for a less practical (but more fun) weekend project? Makezine’s Bre Pettis put together a great video that shows you how to build your own T-shirt cannon for about $75. He also includes a PDF with plans and supply lists. You now have no excuses whatsoever to get in the way of shooting T-shirts.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably let the windows on your house get pretty nasty. Why not get out and make ’em sparkle? I found a short list of the right equipment for the job — and how to use it — over at CleanersRegister.com. And if you’re too lazy to clean your own windows, you can always just plug your zip code into the header above the list linked below, and CleanersRegister will help you find someone to do it for you.

Either way — project done!

Having spent the last few weekends recovering from work and other obligations, we decided to get off our asses this weekend and hit the shop to get some real work done. And we certainly don’t want to leave you, our Toolmonger friends, out. So we’ve officially declared today and tomorrow Get Off Your Ass Weekend.

If you’re not sure what kind of project you want to jump into, just check back all weekend here on Toolmonger for suggestions we’ve collected from some of the other sites we haunt when we’re not writing. From massive to mundane, we’ve got you covered.

And if you get a chance, post some pictures of your GOYAW project work in the Toolmonger photo pool for a chance to win some work gloves. See you on the flip side — with some new projects completed and out-of-the-way!
