Though we haven’t tested one of these in person, we’ve been quite impressed with the bang-for-the-buck value of Ryobi’s updated One+ line, identifiable by their video-game-green color. And we’re glad to see the cordless recip get the updated treatment as well. Besides the obvious new look, some other pretty upscale features lurk under the hood, including a cushioned anti-vibe handle and an adjustable, pivoting shoe.
Like most modern recips, the One+ also offers tool-less blade changes, but via a button instead of a lever. It delivers a 7/8″ stroke and variable speed from 0-3,000 strokes per minute. Sans-battery, it weighs in around 4 lbs. — not the lightest on the market, but not the heaviest, either. We suspect the anti-vibe features made their way into the product in order to fulfill advancing European requirements regulating time of use, but hey — we’ll take the benefit whether it’s required legally here in the U.S. or not. Less vibration means less fatigue — and less pain.
It looks like this saw sells exclusively at Home Depot (at least for now) and currently retails for $50 — about half the price of most pro-line models. You’ll find a couple of blades in the box, but not a battery. Like most One+ tools, Ryobi/Depot sells this as an add-on to your existing One+ kit, so they expect you to use the batteries you already own and probably received with your One+ drill/driver purchase. It’ll work with either the old blue and yellow NiCd One+ packs or the new green (and highly-recommended) lithium-ion batteries.
