Reader Project: Compressed Air/Steam Engine
TM reader GarethBell posted some pics of this awesome little compressed air/steam engine he built. He didn’t include a lot of other information in the Flickr pool, so I’m hoping he’ll stop by here and share some additional details. But from what I can see, this looks like it’s made from machined, anodized aluminum.
Besides the photo itself, he also included a small video of a similar engine actually running. Check it out, and let him know what you think in comments.
Compressed Air Engine [TM Flickr Pool]
Looks awesome! Reminds me of my Tomy Air Jammer Road Rammer toy from the early 80’s that had a clear plastic piston engine.
I made it from aluminium, then anodised it. I’ve anodised it fully now, cylinder is black, the bar is orange and the flat part is gold. I was just playing about with the different colours. I have a new engine in the making at the moment. Here is a 2 min video of it running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3941fR6NWuw

I’d just like to add that the video is the same engine as the picture above, it was just taken before I anodised it. I did it that way round to prove that it worked before I anodised.
