If you’ve been looking to pull the trigger on some inexpensive benchtop gear from Skil, Lowe’s may have your deal going on right now. From now until the 14th of June, you can get 15 percent off select benchtop products like table or bandsaws.

Sure, it doesn’t apply to everything they’ve got, but there are four or five models to pick from in the lineup and consumer-level gear is better than no or broken bench tools.

Be it Father’s day or just because you feel like it, it’s not going to last long. This isn’t a rebate type of thing — they’re just knocking it off the top and moving them out, we suspect, for newer models coming in behind them.

I picked up the Skil table saw on Black Friday for $59. Yeah, I know it’s a cheap entry level saw, but it works as intended and didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Being that I only use it 2-3 times a month makes it a good buy in my book.

Looking for info on the bandsaw, it seems it was originally out in 2008 at a suggested price of $99.95. I guess inflation caught up but the sale now puts it at only $2 more than the 2008 price.
I looked for reviews on the bandsaw. Most were positive for an entry-level tool. The negatives seemed to be from those expecting pro-grade equipment for a hundred bucks.
The SKIL site no longer lists any bandsaws so I suspect this is totally discontinued. For $100, if you just need a hobby saw then I would say this bandsaw is a good deal.

I bought the skil table saw, the fence markings read 1″, 1 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 1 1/4″, then 2″. Didn’t notice it until fully assembled, too pissed to take it back.

Haha Mark, I started out with one of these as a gift, and I made due with it, but I never once looked at that measuring tape, I don’t think it’s adjustable anyway. I just used a ruler. I’m now happy to have a much bigger saw, and if I had spent any money on the Skil I would have been cursing a lot more.

I, too, got a skil 8″ saw as a gift many years ago. I was trimming new homes at the time, & I abused that saw for at least 10 years before the fence fell apart. It was a noisy beast, but a workhorse!! I got many hours of cutting out of that tool.
I replaced it with a delta 10″ portable that isn’t half as tough. I may resurrect the skil.
