While supplies last, Lee Valley has a 1200W heat gun for $19.95. This gun has a two-speed fan (7.3 and 15 cfm) and a dial-operated variable-heat control, shown below, from 110° F to 930° F (45° C to 500° C). For safety, they encased the gun’s heating element in ceramic and added a thermostat to prevent overheating.

Country of origin information is conspicuously absent, but it is UL/CUL approved.

And remember its above 284F and below 390F, 360F is a good spot but make sure you test it with a oven thermometer first. Ah… The things you learn in high school shop class…

Case looks pretty similar to one that’s sold as a “Clarke” and house branded by HF and Princess Auto, for pretty much the same dough. I’m on my second or third one now, light use, hockey sticks and the occasional bit of shrink tube. They don’t last like the red ones (or cost like them to be fair), the red ones have that nice base that allows you to rest them on the bench so you have two hands free to work.

The “red ones” are Master Appliance. At least five times the price but probably 10 times the life. 😉 I’ve got one. At work we use the Mastermite models all day in a harsh production environment (resin-filled heat shrink on large coaxial cable fittings) and they almost never die.

Milwaukee’s are also “red ones” : e.g. Milwaukee’s #750 (used to be made by MHT Products)

Master Appliance has a new hi-tech one:
