Should you turn in your brass setup bars for a set of Kreg’s new precision router table setup bars?  Probably not, but they are an interesting alternative for setting up your table saw, router, and other tools.

While brass setup bars are just pieces of square or rectangular stock machined to tight tolerances, Kreg designed their bars with three different gauges on each bar to easily measure tool height, cut depth gauge, and the distance from tool to the fence. The new style of setup bars might be easier to use for woodworkers who aren’t accustomed to using brass setup bars; you can’t stack their bars to get different thicknesses.

Made from soft aluminum so as not to damage the cutters on your tools, Kreg sells the setup bars in a set that includes seven different bar sizes 1/8”, 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 7/16”, and 1/2” in a plastic carrying case for $40, or you can buy the setup bars individually for about $10 a piece.

Would be a good field tool, I wouldn’t take my brass bars on a jobsite, but this would be handy.

Looks damm useful to me, I’ll probaly snag a set if I don’t get the brass ones that are already on my christmas list.

I have reviewed the Kreg site. This is a nice set. The case is nice (look at the picture on the Kreg site) and the price is reasonable. The only addition I would like to see is the addition of another 1/2″ block, in an alternate form, that could be used in conjunction with the 7 bars, to increase the range to 1″ (you could not make 9/16″). I can imagine a design that would work for the straddle and end gauge, but not for the depth gauge. I just placed an order with Amazon, otherwise I would have ordered a set. ……..next order.
