I would imagine for those poor souls still punching staples in their roofs at holiday time, the Nail Hunter is a welcome comfort. This oddly shaped pair of pliers has been around for a little while and we’ve seen it show up here and there. This new video tells us why.

We can’t help but like the Nail Hunter. It’s largely a single-purpose tool that might not see a lot of time out of the tool bag, but the times you do need it the Nail Hunter looks uniquely suited for popping staples and nails out in a big damn hurry.

I suspect that pretty much the only reason folks aren’t ripping these from Amazon’s virtual shelves is that it will run you $25 to $30 by the time you get one shipped to you. So that leaves the staple puller elite –- a small crowd to be sure –- who are willing to pay up for one, which is a shame really; it looks like a nice tool.

For some reason I was thinking about the price while using my Nailjack the other day and it popped into my head that I bet it’s impossible these days to introduce a new tool at a lower price. Most of our toolbox is mass produced items that have been around for decades. That made me wonder why ordinary handtools aren’t much cheaper, for example. Anyway, just thinking out loud that these babies are worth every nickel, especially considering what they do – speed, safety, etc.

I saw these featured on cool tools today 12/09/2009. Looked useful but I use screws alot more than nails now a days.

So, where can you buy the Nail Hunter or the Nail Jack?? Everywhere I look they’re not available.
