This little 3-gallon air compressor from Bosch looks pretty much like the others you’d see, except for the fact that it mounts its tanks vertically instead of horizontally. This not only makes ’em easier to drain — just open a single valve in the central control panel — it also moves the center of gravity inward so the whole rig feels more balanced in your hand when you carry it.
Aside from that, it features a “roll cage” to protect it from your overly-eager-to-get-home buddies at the jobsite, a slightly recessed control panel that keeps knobs lower than the tanks so you don’t bust up the panel when it “accidentally” falls off the back of the truck, and a one-horsepower electric motor delivering 2.6 CFM at 100 PSI — just right for nailers.
Sure, draining a standard dual-tank isn’t that difficult. But carrying them around kinda sucks. The one I had for years bumped into my leg all the time. I carried one of these around at a Bosch event a while back, and it really is easier to carry.
Street pricing starts around $300, and they also offer 4-gallon and 8-gallon models.
