Get Your Cheap Grills Now
If you’re a fair-weather griller, you can ignore this post. There’s nothing for you to see here. But if you grill in the rain, sleet, snow, and (oh my!) cold — like we do — get thee to your local sporting goods store where they’re dumping grills like Martha Stewart dumps soon-to-be-bad stock. I stumbled across Sean’s favorite tiny grill (above) for about $30 off.
Dig a little and you’ll probably find similar deals. As the it’s-too-cold crowd loses interest they’ll want that shelf space back for I don’t know, toboggans, toques, and other cold-weather stuff. Winner: you. And drop us a line in comments if you score!
That looks like a CharGriller. Same brand as the sweetest grill I’ve ever seen (at Lowes anyways). Duo Model #5050 is half charcoal, half propane grill.
Wonder if anyone is using it? My 10 year old Weber really needs to be replaced (after 3 sets of bars, ignighters, etc) and I’m really disappointed at the quality of the current models.
@Alan: A friend of mine has one of the Duo Char-Grillers, but it hasn’t come up in conversation. I made the switch from gas to charcoal a few years ago after suffering Sean’s endless pity when my gas grill needed work and his self-style “box with fire in it” worked fine. I now love it and wouldn’t go back.
That said, it’d be a real pain to use a charcoal grill, like on an apartment balcony, etc.
I have the CharGriller Duo….plus the offset firebox. Awesome grill. I added heavy duty casters to the legs just so I could move it around. Too heavy to pick up one side and wheel it. The external burner make and EXCELLENT charcoal started using the chimney starter thing.
I bought this because my wife like to cook with gas and I like charcoal. Since we moved into our new house, I do all the grilling now. The gas side is used for warming up the serving dishes.
Hey Chuck, is that the same CharGriller you guys talked about in the podcast (the grill review with the fireman)?
