The DeoxIT® Service Kit, $60 from Caig Laboratories, comes in a zip-top bag with a variety of products incorporating their DeoxIT® contact cleaner including sprays, wipes, and brush applicators. Caig claims that DeoxIT® is a “fast-acting, deoxidizing solution that cleans, protects, lubricates, and improves conductivity on all metal connectors and contacts.”

Different versions and sizes of DeoxIT® are available through Amazon and other web sites.

I have used DeoxIT® on many connections including tool battery packs, flashlight batteries, vehicle batteries, vehicle audio and antennas, and computers — and found that it does work. Have you used DeoxIT®, or similar contact cleaners? What’s your opinion of it?

I use the regular spray DeoxIT when I restore or work on old tube radios and ham radio gear.

DeoxIT is the electronic equivalent of WD-40 – fantastic stuff.

I use it on volume controls, band switches, any switch or control that appears to be making a pretty good *physical* contact, but not electrically working is a good candidate.

$60 seems a bit stiff but might be a bargain since it has the slow-dry and quick-dry (nonflammable) stuff in it as well as all the little wipes and pens and swabs.

Caig make wonderous stuff. it’s one of those cases where, yeah, it’s not the cheapest but it actually works, plus it’ll last forever (just a dab’ll do ya!)

Their ‘AV Survival Kit’ is also worth it if you have to work on/restore any audio-visual gear. It comes with the contact cleaners (wipes, pens, fluid) plus their miracle substance, FaderLube, which does a bang-up job killing noise in faders, pots and rotary switches. DeoxIT is wonderful stuff. We keep cans of the spray at the shop and in our field service kits. The electronics we deal with frequently suffer from oxidation and this stuff does the trick. A light coating before deployment will even help as a preventative measure.
