Ron’s Home and Hardware has the Shur-Line 9″ Pad Painter for only $3.85. This is good stuff, ya’ll. If you’re moving out of an apartment it will fix paint problems correctly — after you plug the holes with toothpaste.

It’s the quick and easy way to paint a large flat surface and a great alternative to rollers or brushes. If you happened to miss some spots on the way out of the apartment, not to worry, because the pad painter is also the first choice of slumlords everywhere. Did we mention it’s cheap?

I have to ask the obvious question – if a Pad is superior to a roller, why is the paint roller the accepted standard?

Pros and DIY alike use rollers, what makes the pad better?

I bought one of these a few months back in hopes of getting a better finish a roller, but was very dissapointed with how it worked out. It was generally a pain to use and much slower than a roller, and the finish wasn’t any better.

I have no comment on this product, but do like their pad/rolling/edger tool. I’ve used it on inside corners where each joining wall was a different color with good results. It’s also pretty handy on the ceiling edge.

A pad finishes with a different texture than a brush or a roller, so I usually edge first then come back and get as close to the corner as I can.

It’s important to keep the wheels clean. With a latex paint, you can let it dry a little then flick any paint off with your fingernail.

Great for painting kitchen cabinets. Doesn’t leave that ugly “orange peel” finish.

@ Matt, never thought of that, I have always sprayed them, but I can see where on smaller jobs this might be a real time saver, got me to thinking of other smaller jobs where a smooth finish is desired, bet I come up with quite a few!
