Reader Whiteforge had a great week. Not only did he attend a blacksmith conference but he walked away with the sweetest raffle prize of the event.

I won this in a raffle at the Southeastern Blacksmith Conference in Madison, Ga. this week in. A well spent $20.00. This was built by John Wayne Taylor at Dogwood Forge in Al.

That is about the coolest raffle prize I have ever seen sir. Of course it helps that it was a room full of folks that are good at building gear and working with metal. What else would you offer a bunch so skilled with the forge but tools?

    WTF is it?

Like Kris said — what IS that? I even looked at the largest version of the photo on Flickr for extra detail, and still can’t tell what it is.

It’s a hammer, ya know, for poundin’ on stuff. Check the other picture on Flickr. I at first thought it was a pitching machine, which would have been cool too.

I think its a small automatic metalworking hammer, if you look at this other photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hotiron/3541502040/in/pool-toolmonger/) on flikr, it looks like the electric motor spins the big yellow wheel which turns some sort of mechanism that moves the hammer (silver section in the middle of the green post in above photo) up and down, I’m not 100% sure though.

    Forget about the mystery hammer…

That’s a JYH (Junk Yard Hammer) the “Tire Hammer” design:

    Congrats, Whiteforge. I’m jealous. 🙂
