A few years ago when Chuck wrote about the Snap-on magnetic flashlight holder, he asked, “Have any of you seen something like this on the market for less?”  Well, Lee Valley recently started retailing a flashlight/trouble light holder that’s not only cheaper but looks to be a lot more versatile.

The adjustable gripper can hold the smallest flashlight or trouble light, or ones up to 2-1/2″ in diameter.  A high-friction pad covers the 1″ rare-earth magnet in the base and lets you secure the holder on a vertical surface without it sliding down, and it can rotate practically 360° to shine light where you need it.  When it’s time to put the the holder away it folds down to just 1″ by 2″ by 4-1/2″, about the size of a set of Allen wrenches.

This little light holder will lighten your wallet by $9.

    Looks great for flashlights.

All you handy fellows ought to be able to grab a conduit hanger or two and a magnet and make something like this. Or tear up an old clip-on light.

Yep. Saw this in their new catalog. It looks rather primitive and very simply constructed to me. I want one.

While handy around the shop, this looks like something you buy and throw in the truck for those late night emergencies. I can think of many occasions where I would have cheerfully mugged someone for a device like this.
