R.J.R. Studios claims their SAND-FLEE portable drum sander is more versatile than an overhead drum sander, is easier to use than a belt sander, and gives you more control than an orbital sander. It also runs very clean, capturing most of the dust in its base even without a vacuum attached to its 2-1/2″ dust port.
A heavy-duty 1/3 HP Baldor motor runs the 18″ wide sanding drum. R.J.R. covers the CNC-machined aluminum and steel drum with Velcro for attaching the sandpaper. With this versatile setup you can install different grits on different parts of the drum to speed up the sanding process.
R.J.R. textures and powder-coats the base, while they plate the 1/4″ steel top with nickel for a smooth and corrosion-resistant finish — it’s also magnetic. The included 24″ long aluminum fence helps you guide your work over the sanding drum.
The 18″ SAND-FLEE is made in the USA and retails for $750, but you can pick it up at Woodcraft for $630. You can also buy a SAND-FLEE that mounts on your Shopsmith Mark V for $550.
