You use a chain wrench when a pipe won’t move and you want it to.  You use a chain vise to keep a pipe from moving when it wants to.  This portable chain vise and stand from RIDGID will help you thread, bend, or cut pipe when you’re away from the shop.

You supply the pipe that serves as the sturdy cast iron frame’s connecting bar and legs.  Located on top of the stand, RIDGID’s chain vise can hold pipes from 1/8″ to 5″ in diameter.  Also included are a pipe rest, pipe bender, and tool tray.

You’ll pay close to $300 for this portable chain vise and stand.

The last 2 portable pipe vises we bought were Ridgid 425’s (16703).
The guys like these because thay are a bit lighter than some others.
I like them because the price and performance math our budget.

I’ve always preferred the 460 “tristand” style. A little bit better support than the 425 with out the extra bulk of the longer vises.

I prefer the 460 too – but the guys say that the 425 is fine and easier to carry up stairs
