Big-Ass Tools By Proto

When most shop guys talk about Stanley tools, they’re talking about the kind you find at the local big box — some folks have never heard of the Stanley Proto industrial line of tools. Seeing them in a picture doesn’t do them justice, either. You need to see ’em up close to fully appreciate their grandeur.
At their booth at the Dickies 500, Stanley was displaying a few 2-1/2” wrenches and large pipe wrenches, along with some truly massive sockets that measured eight inches in diameter on the inside with about an inch of solid steel on the socket walls. This stuff is not for sissies.
You won’t need these for putting that big block in the garage back together — but someone on an oil rig might find ’em very familiar.

More tools you’ve never used. If you had ever used them you wouldn’t mistake weight for grandeur. They’re just heavy.
Speaking of grandeur, could we get a better picture of the young lady?
Re Ron Says:
Being a plumber and pipe fabricator at my core, I would agree that grandeur does not fit in with the sweating and grunting that goes along with turning some truly big nuts and/or pipes by hand – particularly in the heat of a boiler room or turbine hall. Slugging wrenches – like the one pictured – used to be the norm in the business – but hydraulics and pneumatics have helped with the grunting. But then again – didn’t John Henry beat out the steam drill ??
For our really big pipe wrenches, we like the compound leverage variety – which add capability – but at the expense of weight.

I think it’s funny that all the tools, including the big box end wrench thing are tie-stripped to the table like somebody was going to walk off with it. 🙂

That young lady is making a grab for the big wrench.
They’re tied down so they won’t blow away.
Looks like a nice assortment for servicing your steam locomotive…

It’s worth mentioning that proto carries a large variety or “normal” Sized tools in addition to tools like those in the picture.
