With Halloween on the way, we’re reminded of an up-and-coming fall tradition –- Punkin Chunkin. For the un-initiated, trajectory and pumpkins go together like peanut butter and chocolate, and the 23rd annual World Championship Punkin Chunkin event is going down in Delaware on October 31st this year.

We’re pretty sure the big guns, like the Aludium Q-36 Pumpkin Modulator (above) or something very similar, will be out in force to pitch some pumpkins again this year.  At any rate, you get to see what a bunch of shop guys come up with when they set about getting some air under a pumpkin.

Up until last year when I moved to New Orleans I had gone to this every year since high school. It is such a great time, not only is it fun to watch but the tailgating is just as great. Imagine a rig built specifically for this weekend to tailgate with by someone who builds pumpkin catapults. Only one word AWESOME!

The air cannons are the best though you here em wind up and then woosh the pumpkin just disappears into oblivion.

  2. I’ve lived in Delaware all my life, but never made it to Punkin’ Chunkin’ until this year. Good fun, and great french fries. 😉

Too bad I couldn’t get closer to the action, but I got a few good photos for the photoblog…
