Unlike the Hybrid, the Silverado XFE doesn’t offer the immediate savings and allure of the super-green, nor does it promise to make the world a better place. It also won’t add thousands of dollars to the standard Silverado’s sticker price. GM tells us that the XFE option is more in the $400-$500 range.
The reality: The XFE package gives you some of the best that modern trucks have to offer, and you give up nothing in return. The power, style, and ability of the vehicle aren’t compromised in any practical way, and you gain a small amount of fuel economy in the process. If one mile per gallon doesn’t really do it for you, just turn to the breakdown of the package items for added value, such as the tonneau cover and 18” aluminum wheels.
Five hundred bucks factored into the price of a $30,000+ vehicle just doesn’t feel like too much to ask for what the XFE has to offer. It strikes a good balance between economy/value vs. cost.
