Dealmonger: Starrett 815 Toolmakers Hammer $51.51

All2ools.com is selling the Starrett 815 Toolmakers Hammer for only $51.51. Ok, you may not need this tool around the shop too often, unless you do a lot of precision layout work. But come on, it’s a hammer with a magnifying lens — how could you not want it? And if you find yourself picking up a lens (to align your punch with layout lines, say) and then blindly groping around your bench for your hammer, this is the tool for you.

This has to be the funniest one so far…. I have worked with and around machinists all my life and never seen anyone of them use one of these……..
But Tools are tools……
I’ve seen moldmakers use them. I don’t work in that shop any more, but still have the hammer they bought me.

I think I would buy one if the magnifying lens was turned 90 degrees.
Cheers!

I just bought one of the used because I needed a small peening hammer, I often use a magnifying lens in my work (I build violin bows), and how can you pass up something so bizarre? Mind you, I paid about half what these are offered at, but it’s REALLY FUN.

This is a very useful tool more than it is a curiosity. If you want to drill accurately placed holes, the first step is to make a small dimple where the hole is to be placed using a hammer and a prick punch. This tool is perfectly designed for the job. The magnifier lets you more precisely place the prick punch in the exact spot you want. Then you don’t have to take your eyes off the work and fumble around to find your hammer to tap the punch. It improves accuracy of hole placement immensely.
