Sitting through the latest American Chopper episodes on TLC is akin to viewing all the safeguards fail at Chernobyl — it’s horrifying, loud, and most likely not going to end well for everyone involved. A while back we saw the beloved bike-builders Vinnie Dimartino and Cody Connelly leave American Chopper and the OCC crew. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but after sitting though some very rough viewing I started to miss those guys who actually built bikes, and I wondered where they went after the show. The answer: across town to form their own bike shop, V-Force Customs.

Still located in Rock Tavern, NY, “Vin and Cod” (as I will always call them) decided to take the pain out of bike building and make a go of it themselves. With a little backing and some well-deserved star power the pair now build custom, two-wheeled creations that sport the V-Force Logo instead of that other brand which shall not be named. Yes, the shop that made them famous, OCC, and the show that surrounds it, appear nowhere on the V-Force site — however, that’s not really a bad thing.

Whether it was a marketing decision, lawyer’s advice, or simply a case of Vin and Cod taking the high road is anyone’s guess. I will say that we wish them the best and hope their business plan is sound and the market snatches up what they have to offer. It’s a tough world for high-end custom bikes right now, but you never know until you try, and these guys are hanging it out there — respect.

I stopped watching ages ago. The little bike building they showed wasn’t worth sitting through the soap opera-esque of the Tuttles.

Totally agree with jimmy; 90+% of the show is based on contrived “deadlines” and poorly-acted temper tantrums. I’d vote to give the show to V-Force and see what they’d do with it.

All of the above and this too. Without question the metal fab takes talent and skill. The rest of the build? Seen one, seen ’em all. And the bikes are starting to look more & more alike. Biker Build-Off showed there are several quality builders out there as good or, (my opinion), better than OCC. Good for Vin & Cody. They’ll need it. They’ve got a big hill to climb, what with today’s economy.

Soooo many other better bike builders, tv again, fogs the mind…start with the Ness boys…the ultimate and more original father/son bike building team….I can name at least a dozen others.
