Say goodbye to tire-spike strips that blow out your tires. Federal Signal’s Stinger spike system employs hollow spikes to deflate the tires in a regulated manner, gradually slowing the vehicle instead of causing Hollywood-style crashes.
When a tire hits the strip, it rocks backward, directing the 2.1″ spikes toward the tire. As the tire passes over the spikes, the weight of the tire drives them deeply into tire. As the tire leaves the strip, only the embedded spikes pull out of the assembly. Another full tire rotation pushes the spikes completely into the tire. Typically a tire picks up four to six spikes, which cause it to deflate in 12 to 20 seconds. The high-strength steel spikes even work on self-sealing and run-flat tires.
Interested law enforcement professionals will pay about $470 for a fifteen-foot Trooper spike system with 110 spikes. If you’re not in law enforcement, hopefully you’ll never run into this cool tool.
