Actually 850 rpms is pretty slow. Small, low rpm drills like that are great for spraining wrists.

  2. Stuart says:

Actually, many 1/2″ corded drills have a max RPM of 850. I challenge you to find a 1/2″ corded drill (w/o hammer mode) that provides greater than 850 RPM.

  3. Coach James says:

I have three 1/2″ inch drills and none are higher than 850 rpm. One maxes at 550 rpm.

    Makita DP4000 @ 900 rpm,

    What do I win?

Others, probably not the type of drill your thinking of, but they are ½ʺ

    Milwaukee D handle @ 1000 rpm

Milwaukee super hawg @ 1750 RPM

for drilling in steel and other hard metals higher speeds are undisirable because they will mess up your larger bits, and if your using smaller bits you can use a smaller drill with a higher speed.
