Dealmonger: Craftsman 95-Piece Tool Set For $60
Sears.com is offering up this slick Craftsman 95-piece mechanic’s tool set for $60 — talk about a great Father’s Day present. Normally I’d recommend in-store pickup, but with $7.50 for shipping, you’ll probably save a few bucks by not driving your gas-guzzler down to the local Sears.
The set includes 54 Easy-To-Read sockets in 1/4″ and 3/8″ drive, two open-end wrenches, three drive tools, and 36 specialty tools. The laser etching won’t chip, fade, or corrode, and the Easy-To-Read markings make identification easy, even in low light. The set comes with a fitted, blow-molded case.

I say pass on this. I bought this same set for $45 a year ago. It was on sale for $50 and I had a coupon.
It’s a great set – although there are plenty of “fillers” the 6pt sockets make it a great starter or secondary set.
My suggestion if you want a good deal on this set is to wait a few weeks until the Father’s Day sales are posted. Or wait until the next Craftsman Club sales period, or wait for June’s $10 off $50 calendar coupon.
I’ll pass as well…I too got one of these about a year ago for less than $50. The other issue I have is that when the 3/8″ ratchet gave out on my first use – just hand power to loosen a bolt, they gave me a hard time about exchanging it. I ended up with a well used, rebuilt ratchet as a replacement.
Stuart’s right about the fillers. Bits, Allen keys, a magnetic spinner instead of real screwdrivers, 2 open ends, probably 3/8-7/16 & 1/2-9/16, pretty much useless in a world that’s mostly metric. A 3/8 extension but not a 1/4. On the other hand, it includes some deep well sockets and a 1/4 inch ratchet instead of the usual 3/8 to 1/4 adapter. All in all, an adequate set to throw in the trunk or behind the pickup seat.
The thing that I don’t like about the Craftsman tool sets is that you get a bunch of little filler crap – instead of useful items like pliers and screwdrivers. And you get two wrenches – TWO WRENCHES! Who puts this crap together???? The more I look at the picture, the more I realize that there is barely $40 worth of stuff there….
Pass. Your money is better spent elsewhere….
I bought this set a few months ago. I’m pretty sure it was a return because I only paid $27. It was missing four pieces, I called the 800 number on the parts list that was included and they shipped me the missing sockets and screwdriver handle. For $27 I think I got a pretty good deal, especially since I just plan on keeping this in my truck. I like that little compartment in the case for extra tools. I put in two screwdrivers, a small pair of vise grips, needle nose pliers and some metric 8-in-2 Gearwrenches which makes a pretty complete on the road tool kit.
