Ditch The Extra Help With The Post-Pod

When you’re setting posts for a deck or fence, you need either an extra set of hands or some jury-rigged bracing to keep the post plumb until the concrete sets. But with Cepco’s Post-Pod, you can set up and hold posts without the extra helpers.
Using the Post-Pod is simple: set the Post-Pod over the hole, tip the post into the hole and guide it into the Post-Pod bracket, plumb the post, and clamp it in place with the set screws.
The Post-Pod bracket adjusts to secure posts up to 8-1/4″ wide. Three user-supplied 2x4s attach to the Post-Pod for legs, which means you can cut ’em to accommodate the terrain and/or the height of the post.
If you’re only setting a few posts for a deck, you might not want to pay $80 for this extra set of hands — but if you’re regularly setting posts in the ground, it might be worth the expense.

Cute — perhaps folks that rent big tools such as post-hole diggers would bundle a rental of a couple of these in with the daily rental of the digger.
oh…my…god. I needed one of these last weekend. ARGH.
We do a fair number of decks – never bought any of these – but may try out a pair or 2. We generally start ground (or just slightly elevated) level decks with a 1 man crew -to do the framing and then bring out 2-3 more for the decking. On decks at elevation – we start with a full crew – so maybe these would not be as useful.
We do use a number of other CEPCO tools (like their bowrench and some of the accessories that work with it for T&G. We have a pair of CEPCO flooring jacks – that are also good – but a bit pricey.
So why is the post in the background braced the old-fashioned way?
A couple of short stakes nailed to the sides of the post can be just as effective. If the post is set in concrete, you don’t need much force to keep it in place.
Seems like that is overkill. I agree with Daniel. My post went up without any issue what so ever:

The orange level on one of the post makes it super easy to line things up. Did the fence around the yard the same way using the fence slats to prop the post up then turned around and used them on the fence… only cost was the stakes I hammered into the ground.
DLone they were probably making a comparison movie when this shot was taken.
