Dealmonger: Keson 72-Pack Carpenter Pencils $33

If you’re like me — always losing your pencil in the midst of a project — this deal won’t help you stop losing them, but it will make it easier and more cost-efficient to reach for a new pencil. Contractor Tools is offering this 72-pack of Keson industrial-grade, carpenter-grade pencils for $33, about 45 cents a pencil.
The pencils measure 5/8″ by 7″ with a hard #3 lead. Since they’re flat, they won’t roll away — and they’ll fit behind your ear.

I have never found a decent sharpener for these types of pencils. So, I go to Staples and get 144 golf pencils for $7 or 144 regular pencils for about $15 and use them.
I have become quite fond of Husky/Striker mechanical carpenters pencil. Don’t really have to take the time to sharpen it, just advance the lead a bit and go.

As for sharpeners, the Kobalt from Lowes seems to be the only one that works well.
Most carpenters usually just take a few swipes at them with a utility knife.
I’m too old for this deal. I’ll be dead before I could go through a quarter of the box.
Check out the Keson web site for a really cool sharpner. It works like plane and bench hock. Way better than the twist types.
