Speed Clip

“Never have torn pants from your tape measure again,” reads FastCap’s Speed Clip product page. Maybe I’m a bit insensitive to some men’s plight, but I’ve never ripped my pants grabbing my tape. Still, clipping and unclipping a tape measure to your pants can sometimes be a real pain in the ass. This heavy-duty clip secures to your pants or belt and accepts just about any tape measure, holding it at the ready.

Since a tape measure is only as useful as the measurements you record, it also holds that pencil you keep losing behind your ear. And at a whopping $1, the Speed Clip is indeed “cheaper than new pants.”

I love this thing. With amazon prime 2 day shipping on this $.99 item is free also!

Most Amazon reviewers say it’s not great.
Too small to hold 25 foot tape measures, and not very secure. Interesting idea, tho.

I have had one of these for about a year now, and I love it. I use a 16′ FatMax tape measure on it with no problems (being primarily a cabinetmaker, I don’t need longer tape, but I don’t see why a longer tape wouldn’t work with it. They all have the same size clip on the back don’t they?) Prior to having this, I wasn’t exactly ripping my pockets off, but it was definitely a race between whether the pockets or knees of my pants were going to wear out and give way first.. Now that it’s the knees by a long shot, my pants last for much longer! Since I use a mechanical pencil, the sharpener is pretty useless to me, but the frame is heavy enough that I can mount some sort of pencil-hanger off of it. I already hang my ear plug case from it, which means that I ‘forget’ to put in my plugs much less often too, since they are always right there at my hip. Very useful!
