Why buy one of those crappy plastic McForts when you could easily build an awesome playhouse for your kids on your own? This article over on FamilyFun.com offers some ideas on how to build a simple and inexpensive playhouse in an afternoon, but you certainly don’t have to limit yourself to their ideas. If you’ve got the whole weekend to work on it, why not build ’em a fully-enclosed building complete with furniture and bookcases?

Either way, don’t forget to include the kids in the decision-making and building process. The only thing cooler than having a new playhouse is knowing that you built it with mom and dad.

    Er, where’s the link?

I’m hoping to buy or build a decent sized swingset/playhouse in our backyard this winter or spring. I don’t think the kids will be in on the building too much — not at 3 1/2 and 1 1/2!

But trust me, the 1.5 yr old would very much like to be. Particularly the power tools.

Zathrus: I don’t know what happened to the link, but I re-added it and it appears to be working now.

  3. I completely agree with you. I built something fun for the kids that you can see on my blog:

It wasn’t too hard, but took about a month, not an afternoon.

Can you come and do it for me
