A few weeks ago Hitachi announced a new line of “low-vibration” grinders, starting with 7″ and 9″ models, both featuring their “user vibration protection” (UVP) technology — equals a big, puffy handle. Hitachi claims that UVP reduces “tri-axial vibration” — that’s a big, science-y term for movement in all three directions — by up to 30%.
The new grinders also include motor modifications which improve cooling, which extends tool life. A side benefit: the mods also reduce noise by up to 60%. Add to that extended-life carbon motor brushes, and we’d guess this should yield noticable durability.
As we’ve said before, these anti-vibe handles are designed to meet current and ever-increasing European workplace safety rules. But if the number of companies offering anti-vibe power tools in the U.S. is any indication, we’ll see similar rules here shortly.
We’ll follow up with additional information and prices shortly as the tools become widely available.
