DeWalt spade bits

Mike over at ReadyMade spotted this $5 on a Dewalt 6-piece Spade bit set at Amazon. The bits are designed with cutting spurs for hole-finishing and have a hanging hole for wire pulling.

Less than a buck a bit is almost throw-away money. To avoid shipping costing you more than your savings, try adding the bit set to a larger order you have coming to you already. Hey, anything that helps save green, right?

Spade bits seem to be really undervalued by many people–these are the way to go if you need a “disposable” custom or one-off bit. I pick them up when they’re on sale–its a lot easier to file down the edges and reshape a spade bit into the very specific size that you need–you can’t really do that with fluted bits.

And $5 for s/h. Not such a great deal anymore….

Now what I really need is a cheap step drill bit. Every 6 months or so I’m borrowing my neighbor’s $60 bit. For some reason eery so often I need to cut 1/2″-3/4″ holes in metal.

I got this 3 piece set from Harbor Freight. I have definitely got my $10 dollars worth.

  5. I have the same set from HF and I’ve used them a fair amount. Lots of aluminum and mild steel has taken the finish off but they still cut just fine, and if I manage to wear one out, that’ll be my sign to buy a “real” one.

as a coax (satellite) installer, any spade bit combined with a quick change extension of 12″ are the bee knees. every long bit you can need. and not needing to have an 18″ bit poke at you from your tool bag is great!
