Bowed or warped boards are a sure-fire sign of amateur decking work.  Adjustable Clamp, however, claims their Pony Clamp Board Boss holds curved boards straight and in-line for a pro-looking installation.

The clamp’s two ends fit over a one-inch pipe of any length.  Position its shoe to a board — and screw it down if needed — then squeeze them together with the clamp foot on the other end.  The clamp forced the boards caught in between together and straight.

Now you know why decking guys don’t worry too much about warped or bowed boards!

Street pricing starts around $20 — a worthy investment to simplify your deck work.  Of course, anyone with an older deck will tell you that those bowed boards are the first ones in the deck to start popping loose.  So you still might want to choose your lumber carefully.

With a scrap sheet of steal, a break (a vise and hammer??) and a pipe clamp I already have, I can make my own for a few minutes of my time. Even if I purchase a clamp, it’s still less than half the price. Either way, it is an interesting solution to a real problem. Definitely something I’ll file away for later reference.

Yeah Waylan, I had a similar vision of scrap steel and a hole saw. If somebody was really slick they would make a spacer that hangs down off the pipe and falls between the two boards, to fixture an expansion/drain gap. Otherwise you would be tightening the clamp with one hand, and holding a spacer nail between the boards with the other.

I’m with you guys, this is an overkill. Every tool owner already has a pipe clamp so only bend a small scrap of metal to connect the dots.

I’d sure buy a couple of the brackets for a few bucks apiece if they had them though.
