Makita Compressor

Here’s another compressor deal from Ace Tool, this time a Makita.  Ace lists the Makita MAC700 at $150 down from the regular $288.  This compressor has a 12.4A, 2 HP, 2-1/2 gallon oiled single “hot dog style” tank and delivers 3.3 CFM at 90 PSI.  Ace Tool also offers free shipping on this unit which beats out all other vendors I could find — including Amazon!

9 Responses to Dealmonger: A Makita Hot Dog Compressor For $150

This looks similar to the 1hp, 3gal Craftsman unit I bought on sale at Sears for $99. I think mine is rated at 2.5CFM at 90psi.

  2. JK says:

Sorry, I was expecting a Press of some sort after reading the title..you know, for compressing hot dogs. :/

  3. Bruce Mack says:

It’s a good unit, relatively quiet (oil) and quick to “recharge”. I use it with my nailers. I got it at Amazon a couple of years ago for about $20 more than Ace is asking.

  4. Ken says:

Ah. A hot-dog shaped /air/ compressor. I was picturing something rather different for a moment.

  5. Lorenzo says:

Perhaps if there was a spreadsheet available to those of us shopping for a compressor showing what each type was capable of / best used for… it would help clear some of my confusion over what exactly I want / need.

  6. Kelley Nelson says:

I have this compressor. It’s MUCH quieter than the compressors that are included in the Porter Cable nailer combos. It doesn’t have a very large tank, but fills very quickly, is quiet and will last a very long time because it is oil-lubed.

  7. Chris Murray says:

I have this compressor and I find that its size is a great asset. I use it quite often for trim work, and its quiet enough that you can use it in the house without the lady of the house complaining too much.

I’m going to try this compressor with a hardwood flooring nailer on the weekend. I’m sure it will work fine, and like the last poster stated, it fills quickly.

Warning, you may not be able to use right out of the box. I bought his ultra quiet compressor about 3 months ago. Read the comments on Amazon before you purchase, the shipping damage happened to me as well. I expect it’s the poor designed factory packaging that has less to do with how it’s handled or who sells it. The box looked perect from the outside, and I didn’t see any damage when I opened it up. The only clue was a loud hiss when I started it up. The fitting that cracked was cheap @ss cast brass!
After it arrived damaged just like a lot of other reveiwers, it required about an 1 hour to repair and a 3 dollar fitting from HD. I should have just sent it back, but the repair was pretty easy considering the great price. Make sure you have an EZ-Out on hand!

I have one of these I use daily as a Trim carpenter. I didn’t have the shipping problems many others did, so no complaints at all. I watched the prices on amazon for a few months and when it dropped to like $130 shipped I jumped, also a couple of my guys grabbed one too. nice compressor, just a little heavier than expected, which is probably a good thing.
