Mister Jalopy — of Hoopty Rides and MAKE fame — posted pics of this interesting clamp he found at a garage sale.  It’s similar to a modern F-clamp (like this one from Stanley), but the one in the photo applies final clamping force with a lever-actuated eccentric instead of a screw-type mechanism.  It’s a great find, and looks quite useful.

We met Mister Jalopy briefly at Maker Faire a few weeks ago and can tell you he’s a nice guy.  He writes for MAKE, but what you really want to check out are the projects on his website.  From his “giant iPod” to all the crazy old cars he tinkers with (here’s my favorite), it’s good reading.

I see these a lot in studios, mostly to hold together flats (sections of fake walls). There are a few C-clamps as well but these are faster to use.

I work in a shop building theatrical scenery that goes all over the world. We have lots of these…not necessarily the first clamp that people grab, but its always a nice option.

I have this clamp that I was curious about. It has an H stamped on it and C.T. & Co. No. 498-a.
