This new shop light from DeWalt incorporates a number of very cool features: it runs off any 12-18V DeWalt cordless tool batteries or 110V, when connected to wired power it’ll charge two 7.2-18V DeWalt batteries, and its 38W fluorescent light folds down for easy transport.
I’ve seen plenty of shop lights, but this is the first new one in years that actually caught my interest. It looks like it’d be very easy to carry, and it’s always nice to eliminate a piece of gear by combining it into another useful one — like combining a light and a battery charger.
Additionally, a spring-loaded “battery hold down” keeps batteries from popping out when you’re lugging it around. It produces 2,700 lumens of bright light, and weighs in at 12 pounds. It also includes GFCI protection.
The bad news: street pricing starts around $160. And, of course, if you’re already committed to another battery line, you’re pretty much out of luck. Hopefully other tool companies will latch on to this idea as well.
