Regarding the finish for the desk. I’ve used Minwax polygel, stain / polyurithane, but recently I discovered spray can laquer while working on a paint project at home. This stuff can be used on almost any surface, has no unwanted tinting effect and has a tough finish. It also comes in a double thick formula too, but I have not used it…..yet. I bet it would be what you are looking for as far as the finish goes, you could get away with a stain underneath if you did not want the naked wood look.

BTW I found my supply at Home Depot.

Speaking of the desk, how about a pic? I’d love to see what you guys came up with for an audio desk. Does it already have beer-ring stains?
