Don’t have the scratch for Stanley’s Mobile Project Center or Black & Decker’s Workmate?  That doesn’t mean you have to go without.  While we certainly wouldn’t claim that Strong Arm’s on-the-cheap solution measures up to the quality of those famous brands, it’s a hell of a lot easier on the wallet.

It sports a painted steel frame — no powdercoating here! — and a 24″ wide adjustable wood top, and it folds up for storage.  Clarke claims it can support 220 pounds

We repeat: you can have better for more cash.  But if you don’t have the cash, this beats working on the driveway by a longshot.

3 Responses to Cheap-Ass Tools: Strong Arm’s $20 Clamping Table

  1. This is a generic Chinese product that’s available under umpteen names. Mine, which seems to be exactly the same thing and which I bought maybe 15 years ago for $notmuch, just has FOLDING WORKBENCH on the logo sticker, presumably in case you forget what it is.

For the money, it’s a surprisingly good product. It’s also quite lightweight, and small enough to set up almost anywhere.

(That, of course, means that it’s also not much use if you’re working with big hunks of wood. If you had two tables, though, you might be able to work with surprisingly large planks.)

I just bought two of these this week at Menard’s for $10 each with the Tool Shop brand name on them. I know they are cheap, but I was actually pretty impressed. I picked mine up for use with the bench top tools out in the ‘field’ so to speak. I was tired of the scrollsaw on the floor when redoing the floating wood floor in the house and this was a lot cheaper and easier to carry up the stairs than the regular fixed metal bases. My small 10″ bandsaw gets the other one. Take the bolts off, fold up the table and into the car it goes.

    Looks OK.
Does it move around much when you use it?
