It looks like the weekend deals are starting to roll in.  Stuart writes: “Sears is having a 50% off sale on a very small selection of tools.  The 12″ combination square is now $6 and the 25′ measuring tape is $7.50.  I recently purchased a 25′ Stanley PowerLock tape measure. The Craftsman’s lock is MUCH more comfortable and easier to use than the Stanley’s. BUT the tape’s printing looks somewhat faded and dull in comparisson.  Both have similar standoff lengths (7′ for Stanley, ~7.5′ for Craftsman).  If you’re heading in to Sears, don’t forget that hammers & mallets are 20% off. The other 72hr sale details can be found on sears.com.”

    2 words: “Lifetime Guarantee”

Roscoe said it all. For under $8 you can go back in ten years and get a new shiny one and so on and so on for ever and ever…. 🙂

The packaging doesn’t have the same wording as Craftsman hand tools. It says if the tape meaasure is defective in materials or workmanship, you can return it or replace it. But it specifically says that the blade is not covered by the warranty.

I highly doubt that they’ll give anyone problems, but the linked comment string makes me think I’ll have to choose my words carefully if I do ever go in for a replacement.

Stuey’s right, Craftsman tape measures are no longer lifetime warranted. Check the warning card posted near the display or ask a sales type for the new rules. A large part of this is due to Katrina. Contractors flooded, (no pun intended), the South and pretty much cleaned out all the Sears stores. Customers couldn’t buy a tape measure along with several other things due to lifetime guarantee exchanges. Ergo, tape measures, among other stuff is no longer covered. Might not be right, but that was Sear’s solution.
