We’ve been really impressed with Gear Wrench’s offering this last year, and they’re easy to find now that Sears carries most of the line.  It’s $25 right now (though as of this second Sears is out of stock for online orders).  A Google search turned up a number of other outlets that have them in stock for the same price.

A friend of ours (and sometimes Toolmonger contributor) traded his Christmas Sears gift cards for this Gear Wrench 75-pc GearRatchet Vortex Pass-Thru Socket set — which is a good deal at $70.  We’d love to tell you that you don’t need a set of Gear Wrench’s pass-thru sockets, but we’d be lying; they’re awesome — a tool that never seems to make it back to the cabinet in our shop.

I have a set of GearWrenches vortex sockets and they are really nice when working with threaded rod. I am more and more impressed with the quality of the GearWrench products.

I have been using one of these for furniture repair work for about six weeks. It’s a well-built item and has a driver for most any fastener that I encounter. The bits stay in well (always a problem trying to cobble a bit in a 1/4″ drive socket wrench) and it’s easy to keep pressure on the bit. A great find! I got mine for $20 at Lowe’s.

eat little kit to keep in your motorcycle. If your riding a metric replace the standard hex with metric. It’s odd that they don’t have any metrix hex key bits in the case. For those interested the contents for the metric is 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 If you need to know the rest lemme know and I’ll go grab it and report back.
