Reader Find: Pro Hose

James says: “One of the first purchases I made when I bought my house was a shop vacuum. I bought a RIDGID not having done any research — I was in Home Depot and that’s what they had. It turned out to be the right choice. It’s plenty powerful and the locking hose is really handy. However, like any shop vacuum, the included hose is bulky, stiff, and short. One day, I needed another hose, and I purchased RIDGID’s Pro Hose. It’s way more flexible and durable, and it’s compatible with other brands of vacuums that take friction-fit hoses.”
We could use one of these in the shop. We, too, picked up a RIDGID vacuum because it was “the one that was there” — and we’re also happy with ours. Interestingly, last month’s RIDGID combo kit winner said he used to go through vacuums before he picked up a RIDGID; looks like it’s a winner.
I couldn’t find pricing for these quickly. Have any of you found them readily available at the ‘Depot or elsewhere? I think I’m going to pick one up.
The Pro Hose [RIDGID]
It’s $34.97 from Home Depot.
Does this come in a 1.5″ size? I really could use a longer hose for my 2.5 gal ShopVac.

Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=47161&cat=1,42401&ap=1) sells what look to be the same thing in a couple lengths. They have several reducers available as well but nothing as small as 1.5″ by the looks of it.
Rob: The hose is modular and contains a bunch of different connectors for different vacs. Looking at the picture, it looks like one of the ends will work for you. I’ll measure it when I get home later today and report back.
I should also mention that I’m not the only one in my house who likes the hose. My girlfriend sneaks my shop vac upstairs and uses it as a general purpose vacuum. 🙂
I just checked and the small adapter has a 1.5″ *inner* diameter. I guess it’s just for 1.5″ attachments.
Thanks for cheking on that! I’ll continue my search.
