According to many homebuilders, PEX tubing is the way of the future — replacing more difficult to work with copper tubing and bringing additional health benefits.  But whether you agree or not, one thing’s certain: we’re starting to see more and more PEX used in new homes.

RIDGID’s released a set of interchangable jaws for their Compact 100-B Press Tool — which many contractors already use for copper with different jaws — designed specifically for crimping fasteners to PEX tubing.

If you’re already using the 100-B pressing tool, these new jaws’ll make your life a lot easier if you’re asked to work with PEX.  RIDGID supplies a variety of sizes (and some kits), and street pricing for the new jaws start around $120 — a bargain when compared to buying another tool like the $1,500+ 100-B.

The PEX system is really cool. It cuts down on most of the labor involved in running water lines and since it’s flexible, can be run around corners or other obstacles without the trouble of sweating in multiple joints. Definitely the way to go for renovations. Now if you can only convince the plumbers to pass the savings on to you.
