What a great idea: blades that fit both standard and Bosch-type jig saws. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner? (Why didn’t we find one sooner?)
Starrett managed to concoct a blade end that has the shape, “bumps,” and hole to fit in both of the most common types of jig saws. This is wonderful if you happen to have more than one jig saw in the shop — like we do — and they each require different blades.
Besides the unique shank, these blades also benefit from Starrett’s bi-metal construction techniques, which they say resists breakage. These sound similar to the bi-metal concepts Irwin’s using in their new BlueBlade utility blades, which we’ve tested to high success. (We have yet to break one, and we’re hard on utility knives.)
Starrett’s offering a variety of lengths and tooth combinations in the unified shank blades, including blades for wood, metal, and mutli-types. We found a variety of 5-packs on-line for around $17.
