Finds: Coil-On-Plug Quick Probe

Remember the old days when you could check your “Detroit iron” engine for spark by just inserting a spare plug into the wire, laying it on the block where you could see it, and cranking it over? (Or maybe you conned your younger brother into holding the wire — just once.) With new coil-on-plug ignitions, those days are gone.
Thankfully, Wakeon’s coil-on-plug quick probe makes the process even simpler — and safer — than before. Just press the probe’s antenna against the ignition coil and it’ll flash an LED strobe each time the coil fires. It also flashes a green LED to indicate sufficient arc duration.
It’s battery powered — battery included — and can be found from a wide variety of online sources starting at around $75. Interestingly, we saw an extraordinary variation in pricing, so shop hard for the best deal.
