Finds: Makita’s New 18V Cordless Fluorescent Light
Sometimes you just don’t have a spare (third?) hand for a flashlight, and that’s when you need a fluorescent; Its light scatters widely so you don’t have to aim it carefully. Most manufacturers now include a flashlight in their cordless lineup, but Makita’s the first we’ve seen offering an incandescent/fluorescent combo.
It’s a relatively new product and part of their 18V LXT lithium-ion collection. According to Makita, it delivers up to 15 hours of light from its Xenon incandescent bulb and 4 hours from the flourescent. It’s 17-3/4″ long, and it’s got a retractable hook so you can hang it under the hook or on a suspension arm.
It is a little pricey, though, at around $80. On the other hand, if you’ve already invested in some Makita LXT 18V tools, you can find the “tool only” version (no batteries or charger) for more like $55. Or, just watch for it to appear in Makita’s combo kits in the near future.
