post-knipexwp.jpgWhen we saw these, we experienced one of those “why didn’t we think of this” moments.  Thankfully, Knipex did think of it — water pump pliers with an extended, narrow jawset which can fit into all sorts of little, tight spaces.

There’s not much to say about these that you can’t figure out just from looking at the picture (right), except to point out that they also have a large number of lock grooves, which’ll make it easier to set an exact adjustment.

Knipex offers these in a variety of sizes, ranging from 7″ starting at around $20 all the way up to 22″ sets that go for more like $85.  We found a number of sets available online as well.

And, if you need a pair of these right now, you can often find them at your local Sears store as well as in some other retailers’ shops.

One Response to Knipex “Cobra” Extra-Slim Water Pump Pliers

  1. Myself says:

Allow me to rave again about Knipex tools. I bought a set of these (well, one step different, with a not-so-extended nose) some time back and I’m unbelievably fond of them. I was initially a little unsure of my decision to spend the extra money and get a “premium” tool, but I’m so glad I did.

If you only buy one set of pliers this year, make ’em Knipex. Every aspect of the design is thoughtful, comfortable, and capable. The jaws are sharp and mesh precisely, I’m not sure if I could remove splinters with them, but that’s the first example that comes to mind when trying to describe the mechanical superiority. The metal is surprisingly springy, which feels odd at first but it makes it easier for your hand to judge pressure, and I’ve noticed that I don’t get fatigued as easily when using these. The joint adjustment mechanism definitely takes some getting used to, but after a few hours you’ll wonder why they’re not all done like that.

Knipex pliers are in my personal tool hall of fame, right alongside my Swisstech micro-plus. If better tools in either category exist, I don’t know them.
