According to DeWalt, their new DW076KE Self-Leveling Exterior Rotary Laser is made for exterior work such as “leveling, excavation, grade work, footers, posts, multi-level construction, block layout, establishing benchmarks, elevations, and various other outdoor applications.”
The press release indicates that you simply set it up and press a button and flashing X and Y LEDs indicate that that the unit is leveling. When the lights stop flashing, you’re ready to go. DeWalt claims accuracy of +/- 1/8″ per 100′, and you can manually adjust in grades if you choose.
The unit’s head rotates at a fixed speed of 600 RPM, so persistence of vision shows you a solid beam around 360 degrees. It operates on a 14.4v DeWalt-specific battery and comes with a 9.6v-18v charger, though DeWalt notes that you can also use the DeWalt DW9109 vehicle battery charger.
Priced at $999, the DW076KE is going for as little as $730 on the street.
