The Paslode cordless gas nailer is one of the most distinct tools around the shop and has been for a number of years. Since we first picked one up, it’s proven to be more than capable, and its sheer portability has kept it within arm’s reach whenever work outside the confines of plugs and compressors reared its ugly head. Now Paslode has thrown a Li-Ion battery in their famous orange monster and sent it out to play with the other Li-Ion children.

The biggest boast to this latest offering is the Li-Ion pack, which turns out a 6,000-round capacity per charge over the previous NiCad version, which spit 3,000. As with every other Li-Ion battery pack it also means you can leave it in the case for 5 months and it’ll still be ready to go — and that’s a big deal for us since we don’t use the thing everyday.

For every Arthur there is an Excalibur — together they create the seamless integration of human and machine that heralds the fulcrum of change. It could be anything, really; for Wyatt Earp it was the Buntline Special, Indiana Jones never left home without his whip, and for Eddie Rickenbacker it was the SPAD S.XIII. Everyone’s got one, even if they don’t know what it is exactly. After careful thought, mine is the 18ga. pneumatic brad nailer. It’s the weapon of choice in my shop, so it seemed only natural that I host a small test of nailers and see how they stack up to each other.

To that end, for the last few months we’ve been testing five models of 18ga nailers in the shop against the rigors normally associated with shop use. Then, for a little extra kick, each was loaned out to a rougher environment like a trim carpenter crew, cabinet shop or furniture repair retailer for a few weeks. Once each came back from the field, we compiled and compared the data.

Red from Shawshank Redemption tells us that “Geology is the study of pressure and time.” It seems that geology and bedroom closets have much in common. Over time, a small amount of crap we don’t need multiplies to epic proportions inside this all-too-finite area. When the closet nears bursting and the impending clutter bomb threatens to pop the door from the hinges, the twin axioms of organization must be wielded like the hammer of Thor — pare down the excess and add storage.

Several trash bags full of junk in the trash and a trip to the local donation center saw half the offending objects removed from my bedroom area. The rest now neatly piled in front of the bed would need a new home. A look at the top of the closet was all I needed to realize that there was a ton of unused space in that area. I needed a set of built-ins.

We drew the lucky winner of the Paslode Cordless Tools and found that reader Kyle I will be the lucky recipient of the tools. After we contacted him, he opted for the angled nailer and was very excited to get started on the jobs around his place that have been piling up.

We hope that he enjoys his Paslode tools and sends us a pic of his new giveaway booty when they arrive. For those of you who didn’t win this time, just keep in mind that we have a few other giveaways coming soon and you’ll have another chance at winning here at Toolmonger.

We wanted to find some info on the tools that our friends at Paslode are lining up for the giveaway, so we headed over to what turned out to be Paslode’s new site.  We were surprised to find it completely revamped, and it’s much easier to find what you’re looking for.

Our favorite bit is the little area near the bottom right on the front page where you can search by zip code for parts and service dealers for Paslode tools;  it pops up a map and gives you the next few closest hits.  Sure, it’s not that big a deal — until something breaks and you have no idea where to start looking for it to be repaired or replaced.  That’s what I like to refer to as preemptive customer service.  I may never need it for the one pneumatic gun in my arsenal, but it makes me happy that it’s there.

Check out the site if you get the chance, if for no other reason than to drool over a few guns. That’s what we do.

Of course, there’s also this giveaway thing they’re doing in conjunction with some tool blog on the front page — you might want to check that out, too.

Paslode Nailer Giveaway [Toolmonger]

Paslode was kind enough to offer up a set of cordless tools for giveaway to one of our loyal readers. Here’s how it works: sometime in July we’ll select a comment from all the valid comments posted here on this Toolmonger entry post since today. The author of that comment receives the tools!  So, when you post a comment on this post or any of the following Paslode giveaway posts, you’re not only sharing your experience with other Toolmongers around the world, you’re also adding a chance to win. Win what, you ask? You’d receive:

  • A CF-325 cordless framing nailer
  • One Fuel+Nail combo pack
  • Your choice of a straight or angled cordless 16g finish nailer
  • A cordless 18g brad nailer
  • And a cordless 16g standard crown stapler

If you’ve been putting off a cordless nailer/stapler purchase, winning an entire set of Paslode cordless tools would be a great way to get a few summer projects completed without spending that hard-earned cash you’ve been saving. To enter, just tell us in the comments what you’d do with the set if you won, or what you like about cordless nailers over corded pneumatics. Good luck.
