We have mixed feelings about the custom knife builder over on the Buck knives site. On one hand, you can design a pocket blade from several patterns and fit it with a ton of ready-made options and have it shipped right to you. On the other hand, you’re paying more than full retail for a product on the expensive side of whimsy in the first place.
Using the custom builder, I pieced together a knife I’ve always wanted from Buck, a 500 series lockback with a polished blade, cherry wood handle, and nickel bolsters. I even threw in engraving for an extra $7 for a total of $79. Add to that shipping, and I can’t have it for at least 4-6 weeks. It’s the knife I’ve always wanted for a 500 series of similar build material (stag or horn double the price in all cases), but with a lot of wait time.
Props to Buck for giving you the option, but for now I think I’ll just go out and sharpen the blade I’ve got.

I’m surprised with all the talk of “on demand” manufacturing that more manufacturers have not offered customizations of there product lines. I do have a customized Buck 110 and applaud Buck for offering it.
Seductive. You’ve got to have the knife you design because it’s your knife.
There are no linerlocks offered by the Buck Custom Shop, only backlocks. Shipping, via UPS, is free with $50 purchase. Scheech. Your comments are so full of holes that it makes me wonder if you know anything about Buck knives.
Ok, as Oregon said, it’s not a linerlock and there’s not a single knife from the Custom Shop that doesn’t ship free of charge.
You are paying for the opportunity to customize the knife to suit you by picking from the available options including a blade upgrade to S30V for only $8 more than your mirror polished blade, then having a skilled BUCK CRAFTSMAN in the Custom Shop (not an assembly line worker) HAND ASSEMBLE your piece. You don’t think that’s worth paying a premium for?? Of course it will cost more than an off the shelf model of the same knife! Duhhhh.
I have several from the Custom Shop and I’ve had them get to me in as soon as two weeks from the ordering date. Depends on the time of year and how busy the shop is. Around the holidays and Father’s day you can expect a bit longer wait time, but all in all, even 4 to 6 weeks isn’t a long time.
