When you get some weeds stuck in your tiller’s tines or axle, do you go out and purchase an $18 specially bent piece of wire or do you make one yourself out of some scrap wire? If you’re not a Toolmonger, you might go buy Mantis’ tiller tine detangler.
Mantis fashions their 10-3/4″ detangler out of what they call strong, solid steel and then they dip it in some sort of plastic. Rather than spend the $18 for this overpriced piece of wire, drop $10 for a wire bender like we’ve posted before, and with the leftover cash you save you can pick up some Plasti-dip to coat the handle.

It is a bit offensive for what it is, but $18 vs an afternoon forming a tool that won’t be ready until the goop dries doesn’t sound so bad when you’d rather git-er-done and go on to something else.
I somehow managed to find a two foot long length of steel wire about 3/32 in diameter with my two stage snowblower. It wrapped around the impeller shaft and took about an hour to cut that off with a hacksaw. Have no clue where it came from.
As for cutting weeds wrapped around a tiller’s tines, I use a serrated steak knife to cut it off. (Shhh, don’t tell the wife). If there’s wire in the mess, I use a diagonal cutting pliers to cut and remove the wire..
proof that there is a sucker born every minute. $18? If you buy it you deserve to be poorer
