Flickr Pool: Fire and Rubble
By Sean O'Hara
This is a picture of reader Gregjsmith’s fireplace. It’s a fine looking mess. We made a mess last week that wasn’t half this nice. Anytime someone turns a piece of their house into rubble we are 100 percent behind the thought.
We’re assuming Greg plans to build a new fireplace and just needed to get the old one out of the way in the quickest manner possible — with a big-ass hammer. Whatever the reason, it makes us smile.
Greg, please be sure to send in a few pics when you’re done. We can’t wait.

I did the same thing. Mine had a curve that came into the room over 5 ft. It looked like a stage.

That’s my mess. I was putting now new floors and didn’t want to have that brick stoop in the way for later construction. The plan is to remove all signs of the 1970’s and go with something more modern. I wrote about it on my blog: http://greginthedesert.net/2009/12/partial-fireplace-deconstruction/

It was actually a hearth, and removing it will definitely bring it from the 70’s, the 1470’s that is. Good luck on your project, I look forward to seeing the results!

Some days it’s fun to just use the big hammer.
