TuffRhino.com has the Miracool Cooling bandana for $1.77.

The Miracool evaporative cooling bandana contains water-absorbing polymers; to use you soak the bandana in water for a bit and then wear the slightly soggy bandana. The water slowly evaporates and keeps you cool, which should work better than just wearing a wet cotton bandana. I’ve never used one, but many people seem to like them and I’m considering getting one if this unseasonal Northwest heat wave continues. Their welding beanies look useful as well. Anyone using them?

Yep, my work used to hand them out when it got over 90 in the shop (NO AC factory). Everyone was wearing them. Soak them in a bucket of ice water and they stay cold and wet for awhile!

I’ve have one – they work great for helping you stay cool.

    I’m dying at work.

You know it’s hot when you drink a gallon of water and don’t piss all day.

I agree with matt. My employer hands them out when it gets hot as well. Very nice to have on as the temperature gets around 100* in the plant during the summer.

I picked up a couple of these on my own about ten years ago and still swear by them. (at this point, I mostly swear because I can’t find them, but that’s different) I kept two or three in active rotation anytime it got over about 90 (this was in DC, so that’s temp and humidity both!). I would wear be wearing one, letting yesterday’s dry a little so I could try to clean it, and setting another one up in a bowl of water in the fridge.

They just make sense: part of the reason your body sweats in the first place is speed cooling by having damp skin. This ‘water sausage’ just supplements what your body is already trying to do, by trickling a small amount of water down your shoulders and back. If this doesn’t sound refreshing to you, then I put to you that it just isn’t hot enough where you are!

Wife wears one at her 100 degree plus spot in the flea market all day, swears by it. They’re only about three bucks or so at Academy Sports (in the golf section, not the camping section!?) and are worth every penny. She has two thermos jugs she brings to work with her… one full of ice water to drink, and one full of ice water to re-dunk the neck wrap ever few hours!
